During a recent dinner outing with friends I found myself wondering how I had, once again, wound up giving an impromptu wine appreciation course at the table. Did my dining companions actually request this ‘tutorial’? Or had they nonchalantly asked an unassuming wine related question and were now regretting the day they met me? Either way, I still have no idea what the impetus behind my discourse was, however the ultimate subject – Philip Shaw’s 2009 No. 11 Chardonnay – was hard to forget (and deserving of the lengthy contemplation).
